In 1981, with little more than determination and a dream, our founder, a young chef named C.W. "Danny" Lam opened one of NJ's first Chinese take-out shops in Bloomfield. He started The Original Number One Chinese Kitchen in a very small space with only two other employees.
Through hard work and a relentless pursuit of making great tasting food he was able to grow his business virtually every single year he was open. He would often tell his staff "Don't worry about the long lines. Don't rush the food! If it doesn't taste good, they won't come back!" Thankfully, his staff listened.
Over the decades we have tried to add to the experience by adding more space for a dining room, adding delivery service, and finally adding an express buffet option for even faster food. We have recently renovated our entire restaurant in order to better serve our guests. Today we have the same enthusiasm for customer service as we do for great tasting food.
